CORE Education Consultant Douglas Harre has been supporting the co-located schools with ICT services in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes. Douglas describes some of the schools' experiences, including a number of initiatives that have assisted schools in coping with their current challenges, and which will be essential in future-focused planning for all schools.
There is a growing awareness that one-size-fits-all approaches to school knowledge and organisation are increasingly ill-adapted both to addressing individuals’ needs and to the knowledge society at large. CORE consultant Douglas Harrē believes education will be the essential differentiator of the 21st century, and schools will need to continue to lift their game in the face of a series of global challenges.
Douglas Harre is Senior ICT Consultant at the eLearning Unit at the Ministry of Education. He talks here about the progress made to date in upgrading schools' infrastructure, as well as plans for the delivery of high speed broadband to schools. Douglas describes how the MOE is funding network upgrades that will provide a foundation for the new products and services to be delivered by high speed fibre connections to NZ schools.
