Interesting, but she needs a better understanding of the history of NZ education- don't just make it up! Providing a potted history without understanding the sociopolitical context of change is a waste of time. Suggesting that secondary teachers don't teach students demonstrates she hasn't been near a NZ school for a while or understands the constraints that shape educational practice in all schools. At best, a taster on the changing philosophy, but no substitute for reading to become better informed.

A definite re-think

This video really honed in on what the NZ curriculum is and explained and clarified a lot for me. So glad I saw it BEFORE I did my unit plans for next year - A great help and a new perspective, which looking at videos/resources such as the flipped classroom and khanacademy I now understand. I see my subject readily available (and constantly re-defined) on the Internet - I'll be teaching competencies and values first and my subject through that lens.

Great explaination of the changes in education and provocation of 'essence of education' plus other teasing questions for teachers here in NZ...
