Great explaination of the changes in education and provocation of 'essence of education' plus other teasing questions for teachers here in NZ...
A definite re-think
This video really honed in on what the NZ curriculum is and explained and clarified a lot for me. So glad I saw it BEFORE I did my unit plans for next year - A great help and a new perspective, which looking at videos/resources such as the flipped classroom and khanacademy I now understand. Interesting, but she needs a better understanding of the history of NZ education- don't just make it up! Providing a potted history without understanding the sociopolitical context of change is a waste of time. Suggesting that secondary teachers don't teach students demonstrates she hasn't been near a NZ school for a while or understands the constraints that shape educational practice in all schools. At best, a taster on the changing philosophy, but no substitute for reading to become better informed.
